Your IID Provider Should Have ISO 9001 Certification

Your IID Provider Should Have ISO 9001 Certification

When it comes to ignition interlock devices, your IID provider should have ISO 9001 certification.  Why, you may ask? Because having the ISO 9001 means the product manufacturer and the devices themselves meet or exceed industry standards for quality. If an IID provider does not have certification, you may get be getting a substandard device, and could face problems complying with your restricted driving program.

Just What Is ISO 9001 Certification?

According to the American Society for Quality, ISO 9001 is the international standard for quality management and quality assurance in any organization, from manufacturing to higher education. ALCOLOCK  is ISO 9001 certified, and has been for years, and we make it a point to maintain our certification. This means we consistently provide quality products that meet customer,  regulatory and statutory requirements. Some states require that IID providers must have ISO 9001 certification in order to operate in their states. This is separate from meeting state and federal ignition interlock device standards.

When you choose an Ignition Interlock device company like ALCOLOCK that is ISO 9001 certified, you are virtually guaranteed that our ignition interlock devices and our installation and maintenance services reach the highest standards. ALCOLOCK was the pioneer in the IID industry. Over the years, we have helped more than a million drivers in multiple countries get back on the road and in compliance with their restricted driving programs.

ALCOLOCK Provides Quality Ignition Interlock Devices and Quality Service You Can Count on

At ALCOLOCK, we pride ourselves on providing our customers with affordable, easy to use ignition interlock devices. If you’ve been convicted of DUI/DWI, you may be required to get an ignition interlock device installed on each vehicle you own. Be sure to check with your state DMV and court paperwork to ensure you are in compliance from the beginning of your restricted driving program. Failure to install a mandated IID can result in additional penalties including fines, revocation of parole, and suspension or revocation of your license.

At your installation appointment, your ALCOLOCK certified technician will install the device into your vehicle. This entails connecting the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) to your vehicle’s starter, and calibrating the handheld device to you, specifically. If another person will be driving your car, they will need to come to the initial installation appointment as well.

Your ignition interlock device installation appointment should take about an hour total, and that time includes the technician training you in how to properly use the device. The technician will also explain what all the various lights and sounds mean, and give you a user’s manual and compliance guide. We will also schedule your first monthly maintenance visit before you leave.

All states require monthly service visits. For your convenience, your device will send you a reminder of these visits. These take about 20 minutes, during which time the technician uploads all of the device records to your monitoring agency. This is generally the DMV, but could also include your probation officer. The technician will also re-calibrate the device, if needed. If you need to reschedule a service visit, do so right away. There is a 5 day grace period, but after that, you will be on permanent lockout, and will have to get your vehicle towed in for the service appointment, at which point your service technician will reset the device.

And of course, when you’ve successfully completed your restricted driving program, we will remove the device at no additional cost to you. If you have somehow tampered with or damaged the device, there would be additional charges related to that.

In many states, your restricted driving program only allows you to drive at certain times of day, and only to work, school or treatment appointments. Other states do not have such restrictions.
